Can't believe a year ago, we were in Addis

In fact, Wednesday was the day of our embassy appt. Memorable in so many ways...Kebrom peed all over Paul, visa was granted...saw the incredible need that so many of the people of Addis experience on a daily basis.

A year later, not sure where I thought we would be; but, here we are! Kebrom is doing well. His favorite days are the ones where Dad gets to stay home. He gets very excited on mornings Paul is in his shorts & not 'work clothes' (dress shirt & slacks).

You guys all know how fanatical Kebrom is about tools, right? If you didn’t, let’s just say the many hours Paul spent laying the laminate flooring upstairs were the greatest hours of his life. There is NOTHING in the world cooler than tools and using them, as far as he is concerned.

Kebrom still loves tools!! We bought a small air compressor for Geoffrey to put up the trim at our house, well Geoffrey apparently tackled the project yesterday and just sent Paul the following e-mail message:

“I was sitting in the hallway putting teflon tape on the fittings for the air compressor, so I had a whole bunch of wrenches sitting around. All of sudden I hear this GASP!!! I look up, Kebrom’s eyes are as big as saucers, and he says (incredulous) “Can I help you!?!??” The air compressor might be the coolest thing he has ever seen.”

Atsede is still loving track. But, she's having a more difficult time finding her place in our family. She lacks the security Kebrom has. She remembers Ethiopia. She remembers her Ethiopian siblings. She remembers her birthmom. I wonder if she views us as replacements, and not very good ones. I keep reminding myself, it's only been a year, it's only been a year. She was abandoned once before, and she remembers it well. It's looking like it will take a very long time for her to be at peace. Please pray for Atsede, that she will feel safe & secure.

We finally received news on Kebrom's health yesterday. Wasn't the best, or the worst news we could have received. There is some scarring & inflammation of his liver. His particular doctor is on medical leave, but the other specialist indicated they would recommend treatment. So, looks like we'll be heading back out to Seattle the end of June to learn more. Please keep little Kebrom's health in your prayers.
